Sporting Opportunities

At Hillsborough Public School, sport is an important part of our students' development—encouraging teamwork, resilience, and a healthy lifestyle. As a proud member of the East Lake Macquarie Public Schools Sporting Association (ELMPSSA), our students have the chance to participate in a wide variety of local, regional, and state-level sporting events.

In addition, students are able to trial for Zone Representative Teams with the potential to progress through regional and state levels. Some trial sports include:

• Rugby League (11s and Opens)
• Rugby Union
• Netball
• Touch Football
• Soccer
• AFL
• Basketball
• Cricket
• Tennis
• Softball
• Hockey

We encourage all students to “have a go” and get involved, whether through school carnivals, team trials, or lunchtime fitness clubs. At HPS, sport is for everyone—and there’s always a place to play, compete, and grow.

Each year, we host three major whole-school carnivals in swimming, cross country, and athletics. From these, students can progress to represent our school at the ELMPSSA Zone level, with further opportunities to qualify for the Hunter Region and even NSW State Championships.

We also enter teams into various NSW PSSA Knockout Competitions, including:

• Soccer
• Netball
• Touch Football
• FUTSAL

These events provide a fantastic platform for our students to build skills, experience competition, and represent their school with pride.
