Co-Curricular

Co-curricular programs

At Hillsborough Public School, we believe in providing a well-rounded education that goes beyond the classroom. Our co-curricular activities offer students a variety of opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills, and contribute to the school community.

Buddy Program

At Hillsborough Public School, ourbuddy program pairs five Year 6 students with five Kindergarten students in a buddy group. Our Year 6 buddies foster friendships between our kindergarten students and provide support on the school playground. Buddies are crucial in helping younger students feel welcomed and engaged at school.

Our goal is that by the end of the Kindergarten Orientation sessions, your child will know the name of at least two Year 6 friends ready to start the new school year.

Buddy Groups guide their Kindergarten students during school activities, playtime and special projects. They provide encouragement andact as positive role models, helping to create a caring andinclusive environment.

Gardening Club

It is a student club where studentscollaborate to plant, weed, and mulch our gardens. In 2024, we participated in the Lake Macquarie City Council Living Smart Garden Bed competition, where we won the People's Choice Award!

We all sort our waste using a colour-coded system with pictures to easily help identify the correct bin for recycling, compost, or general waste. We also have a designated problem waste recycling station in the office to ensure the proper disposal and recycling of hazardous or non-traditional waste materials.

HPS is excited to be in theplanning stages of building a tiny forest in our school grounds! This is a small, densely planted area that mimics a natural forest ecosystem and is designed to support biodiversity, provide educational opportunities, and offer environmental benefits!

Technology Clubs

At Hillsborough Public School, technology is part of everyday learning. Each week, student sengage in hands-on lessons using class laptops, iPads, and robotics kits to complete exciting STEM challenges. Whether designing a digital storybook, programming a Bee-Bot across a map, or building solutions to real-world problems, students learn to think creatively and critically across all subjects.

Through these rich opportunities, students at Hillsborough grow as creators, innovators, and confident digital citizens. Every project, challenge and club is designed to inspire a lifelong love of learning, problem-solving and imagination — preparing our students for a future full of possibilities.

Outside the classroom, students can ignite their passions through our Coding Club and Digital Graphic Design Club. Here, they explore the worlds of computer programming and digital media — coding games and animations, designing posters and logos, and bringing their ideas to life through technology.
